Air New Zealand picks up international award
Air New Zealand was recently named 'airline of the year' by Air Transport World, the international aviation magazine.
The carrier was praised for its solid performance during times of economic difficulty, along with its environmental initiatives, customer service and innovative use of technology.
Tourism New Zealand said the achievement will have positive effects for the country's travel industry as a whole.
Tim Hunter, acting chief executive of the agency, said it is a "huge advantage" for New Zealand to be served by an internationally recognised carrier, seeing as most of the country's international visitors travel by air.
He added: "New Zealanders know Air New Zealand is a world-class airline committed to innovation, customer care and environmental protection.
"This award will reinforce to international travellers that our national carrier is among the world's best."
People hoping to enjoy some sunshine in the country might be interested in visiting Nelson, which was recently revealed to have enjoyed more hours of sun in 2009 than any other destination.
