Travellers planning a trip to the
US in the future will be offered yet another family attraction when Legoland
Florida opens its doors in late 2011.
Merlin Entertainments called a press conference at Cypress Gardens, the location of the state's first theme park, to announce that a new Legoland attraction will be developed at the site.
The development in Polk County will be one of the most "exciting and important" that the company has ever been involved with, said chief executive officer Nick Varney.
He added: "The development of a Legoland park in Florida is a perfect opportunity for us here in the heart of what is the biggest family tourist centre in the world - and I believe it will bring a unique new experience to Florida."
Merlin Entertainments is the second largest attraction company in the world after Walt Disney, with 13 properties currently operating in the US alone.
The new site will be its fourth Legoland park, with the others located in the
UK,
Germany,
Denmark and the state of California.
Families flock to Florida every year to visit attractions such as Walt Disney World, Discovery Cove and Aquatica in
Orlando.
