Innovative architecture show to open in Winnipeg
Travellers planning a trip to Canada this year will be able to visit the city of Winnipeg to see a unique architectural showcase.
The display will consist of five huts built by teams including architects, artists and a construction crew, which will be based along the Assiniboine Credit Union River Trail in the Forks area of the city.
Among the unique designs is a giant orange orb that will be suspended above the frozen river and a structure that resembles a crumpled piece of aluminium foil.
Travellers who are walking along the river trail will be able to stop off at one of the heated displays to sit down and warm up.
Peter Hargreaves of Sputnik Architecture, one of the organisers, said: "This event is really intended to showcase art and architecture in a setting that is otherwise reserved for the mundane and practical.
"It's an intentional exploration of human experiences. In the same way we feel cold and warmth, these huts are meant to evoke feelings and create dialogue."
The huts will be installed in their respective positions by February 1st.
Winnipeg is hosting the display as part of Manitoba Homecoming 2010, which will see a number of events held in the province over the coming year.
