Lie-flat seats 'to become a reality' in economy
Air New Zealand has announced that lie-flat seats will become "a reality" for economy passengers later this year when it introduces a new cabin design for its Boeing 777-300 aircraft.
The carrier claimed that the innovations will "transform" international air travel and "redefine" the long-haul flight experience.
Known as the 'skycouch', the new product will allow travellers to create a flat surface on which they can relax and sleep.
The new seats will occupy the first 11 window rows in the economy cabin, providing space to accommodate 22 passengers.
Rob Fyfe, Air New Zealand's chief executive officer, said: "Air New Zealand is putting the magic and romance back into flying. For the past three years we have been designing a new long-haul experience that will reignite the passion of today's travellers.
"For those who choose, the days of sitting in economy and yearning to lie down and sleep are gone. The dream is now a reality, one that you can even share with a travelling companion."
The carrier will take delivery of its first Boeing 777-300 plane in November.
