Substantial growth forecast in Turkey's tourism industry
Turkey's tourism industry is on track to experience significant growth over the coming years, according to a report released by global research company RNCOS.
The group predicted that tourist arrivals in the country will top 33 million by 2012.
While the sector was "slightly affected" by the economic downturn in 2008, RNCOS said an "inevitable recovery" is expected this year.
A number of trends were identified that could contribute to the success of the industry in the near future, including the rising popularity of health tourism, yachting, golf holidays and cultural breaks.
The inbound tourism market in Turkey has traditionally been dominated by the UK, Germany and Russia, with these countries accounting for around 36 per cent of arrivals in 2008.
RNCOS predicted that this trend will continue in the coming years.
Travellers planning to visit Turkey can catch flights to Antalya, Dalaman, Istanbul and other destinations.
A report released by the research firm last year predicted that tourist arrivals in Malaysia will increase by nine per cent between 2009 and 2012.
