Caribbean tourism expected to grow in 2010
The Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO) has revealed that it is expecting the industry to show "moderate growth" in 2010.
Following positive indicators in the fourth quarter of 2009, visitor arrivals across the region are expected to increase by up to three per cent this year as economic conditions improve across the globe.
A total of 22.1 million people visited the Caribbean last year, compared to 22.9 million in 2008.
Hugh Riley, the CTO's secretary general, said: "While the global economy is still in a state of flux, interest in the Caribbean remains extremely high.
"We, along with our destination, hotel and cruise partners, have continued to promote the region and we feel that in an increasingly hectic world with all the related pressures, now, more than ever, life needs the Caribbean and we're here to make life easier for our visitors."
The CTO has its headquarters in Barbados and marketing operations in London, New York and Toronto.
