Flybe updates pregnancy regulations on island routes
Flybe has announced an update to its regulations regarding pregnant passengers, which means that it can now carry women at all stages of pregnancy on certain routes if they have a medical certificate confirming they are fit to fly.
The change relates to the carrier's flights to Liverpool from the Isle of Man and to Southampton and London Gatwick from Guernsey and Jersey.
Under normal regulations, women who are more than 34 weeks pregnant are not permitted to fly, even if they have medical approval to do so.
Flybe pointed out that this situation can often present a problem for island residents who would rather use advanced medical facilities on the mainland during the advanced stages of their pregnancy.
Chief commercial officer Mike Rutter said: "We are delighted that, as a result of this adjustment to passenger policy, women in the later stages of pregnancy can now rest easier in the knowledge that at least they can now continue to fly to and from home for specialist mainland medical care."
Women who are 28 to 34 weeks pregnant also require a medical certificate to fly but can travel on any route.
