AITO survey shows desire to travel this year
The results of a survey by the Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO) and Wanderlust magazine have been released, showing a significant increase in confidence among travellers over the past six months.
More than four out of every five (83 per cent) consumers polled said they are planning to take the same number or more trips abroad in the coming year.
A similar proportion (81 per cent) revealed that they are expecting to spend at least as much on their holidays as in the last 12 months.
The results are an improvement on a survey carried out in May 2009, when 77 per cent of people said they were planning to take just as many trips in the next year and 72 per cent predicted they would spend as much.
AITO chairman Derek Moore said: "We know that people are less willing to forgo holidays these days and it's encouraging to see just how positive plans for travel in 2010 are already.
"This is reflected in tour operator bookings, which show that the desire to take holidays in 2010 is more than just an intention."
The research revealed that destination is still the most significant factor for holidaymakers, while customer service is now seen as more important than price.
