Qantas to upgrade entertainment systems
Qantas has announced it is to invest AUS$400 million (£228 million) to upgrade its in-flight entertainment systems on a part of its fleet.
The Australian carrier will use this funding to make changes to nine of its Boeing 747-400 aircraft and its entire Airbus A380 planes.
In a statement, the airline explained that the revamp would improve services for international long-haul customers.
Alan Joyce, chief executive of Qantas, said: "While some travel markets are recovering from the economic crisis, our assessment of longer term travel trends, which pre-dates the economic crisis, shows that international premium travel demand is changing."
He added: "These changes will ensure we remain competitive in terms of aircraft configuration, product and service and that we are better able to ensure capacity is more closely aligned with demand."
The announcement comes alongside the release of the airline's half-year results, which indicated that it enjoyed a profit of AUS$90 million in the six months ending December 31st 2009.
