Taiwan holidays 'best introduction to Far East'
Britons interested in learning more about the Far East have been advised to start with Taiwan as the country offers a good "introduction" to the area.
This is because the destination is like a "microcosm" of Asia, according to Josephine Huang, marketing manager of the Taiwan Tourism Bureau.
Ms Huang said that the country has beaches that rival those of Thailand, mountains similar to Malaysia and food from across the continent, which makes it ideal for first-time visitors.
"Taiwan is renowned for having some of the finest cuisine in the world, an unchanged aboriginal culture, impressive hiking routes - including north-east Asia's tallest peak - and it is also emerging as a really popular cycling destination," she added.
"The pound being at an all time low against the euro means that British travellers can get more for their money in Asia."
Asia is becoming an increasingly popular tourist destination. Recent figures from the Pacific Asia Travel Association revealed that the continent witnessed a three per cent increase in visitors in November 2009.
