Singapore Tourism Board targets further growth in 2010
The Singapore Tourism Board has revealed that it is targeting further growth during 2010 following a strong start to the year.
Figures released by the organisation recently show that visitor arrivals increased by 17.6 per cent year-on-year in January.
The total of 908,000 tourists was the highest ever recorded for the month.
Eunice Yeo, area director for northern and western Europe at the Singapore Tourism Board, said the destination benefited from the winter travel season, as well as the launch of promotional campaigns and tour operator initiatives at the end of 2009.
She added: "We aim to continue the growth this year with the aid of new boutique hotels, gourmet restaurants and [the] opening of two new integrated resorts: Resorts World Sentosa opening in May and Marina Bay Sands, which officially opens in June."
Commenting on the appeal of Singapore for travellers, Ms Yeo said the city-state is a "melting pot of culture and colour" that combines Chinese, Indian, Malay and Eurasian influences.
She also described the destination as a "paradise" for food lovers and keen shoppers.
