Hong Kong cuisine app launched for iPhone

Travellers planning a trip to Hong Kong in the future will be able to make use of a new iPhone application covering the destination's culinary scene.

The tool provides information about a variety of local dishes and delicacies - including traditional favourites such as congee, noodles and rice - along with details of restaurants where they can be enjoyed.

Users can pinpoint the location of different eateries on static maps or Google Earth and also make use of inbuilt social networking platforms such as Facebook and Twitter.

Visitors who want to immerse themselves in the local culture during a trip to Hong Kong will welcome a feature of the app focusing on the pronunciation of certain dishes in Cantonese.

More information about the new guide, along with other mobile applications, is available on the Hong Kong Tourism Board website.

Hong Kong's culinary scene is set for another boost later this year when Jamie Oliver opens his first Italian family-style restaurant in the city.

Travellers can catch flights to Hong Kong with Cathay Pacific, British Airways, Emirates and other carriers.
