British Airways extending London City to Barcelona flights
British Airways will be extending its network from London City Airport this year with the launch of year-round flights to Barcelona.
The move is part of a wider strategy being implemented by the airline to expand its portfolio of routes to Spain from the London gateway.
New services to Majorca and Ibiza will be introduced in May, complementing British Airways' existing link to Madrid.
Flights from London City Airport to Barcelona - which were previously limited to the summer season - will get underway at the end of March and continue throughout the year.
An additional Saturday morning service will be launched in May, bringing the total number of weekly connections on the route to seven.
Luke Hayhoe, commercial manager of the British Airways subsidiary that will operate the flights, said: "The Spanish destinations are proving extremely popular from London City Airport.
"Barcelona has traditionally operated as a summer-only destination but there is a big demand from both business and leisure passengers for us to continue through the winter."
The new service will offer free online check-in and seat selection up to 24 hours before departure.
