London City Airport opens new security search area
London City Airport has announced the opening of two new security check-in lanes, bringing its total number of search areas to six.
The expansion was carried out to improve the London gateway's security facilities and reduce passenger processing times.
Several other measures have been implemented at the base recently to alleviate delays related to security searches, including the purchase of new equipment and the recruitment of additional staff.
Richard Gooding OBE, chief executive of London City Airport, said: "The airport's core offering is to ensure the passenger experience is stress-free with quick departure and arrival processing times.
"To restore quick security processing times the airport undertook a number of measures to speed up security searches. We are pleased the new search facility, which has been operational since the weekend, has increased passenger screening capacity by 50 per cent."
London City is set to see a further £7 million of investment to increase the capacity of the security search area and enlarge the passenger departure lounge.
The airport will boost its offering to leisure travellers this year, with British Airways set to resume year-round flights to Barcelona at the end of March before launching new services to Ibiza and Majorca in May.
