Continental to sell more spacious seats at check-in
Continental Airlines has launched a new programme allowing customers to purchase economy seats offering extra leg room.
The initiative is set to get underway on 17 March and will offer passengers the opportunity to pay for more spacious seats when they are checking in.
Members of the airline's OnePass Elite frequent flyer scheme and their travelling companions can continue to assign themselves economy seats with extra leg room without charge.
Jim Compton, Continental's executive vice president and chief marketing officer, said: "Our customers want more choices.
"Seats with additional leg room are higher-value seats and we want to offer them to customers who recognise that value."
The airline operates more than 2,500 daily departures around the world and has hubs in New York, Houston and Cleveland in the US.
Continental recently announced that it is offering a mobile boarding facility on its flights to New York and Houston from Heathrow Airport.
