Survey highlights growing interest in overseas holidays
The recent cold weather in the UK is one of the factors that has contributed to growing demand for overseas holidays this year, according to a new survey.
Lloyds TSB polled over 2,000 Britons and found that the majority (60 per cent) plan to head abroad for their main break in 2010.
A third of these holidaymakers said they are determined to visit a foreign country to enjoy some sun following the recent cold snap in the UK.
Over 60 per cent of Brits will be holidaying in Europe this year, according to the poll, while 12 per cent are intending to visit the US and five per cent are planning a trip to Africa.
Sun and beach holidays are expected to be the most common choice, with 45 per cent of people planning an excursion of this kind in the summer, while city breaks (23 per cent) are also set to be fairly popular.
A third of the respondents said their main holiday is already booked, while nearly a quarter said they are planning to make a reservation in the next few weeks.
