Eurozone to stay top for Brits in 2010, survey finds
The unfavourable exchange rate will not stop British travellers from visiting the eurozone this year, according to a survey by First Rate Exchange Services.
A poll of 5,000 adults in the UK found that 58 per cent are planning to take at least one holiday overseas in 2010.
Of this group, 71 per cent - or 21.9 million people - will be visiting a destination in the eurozone such as Portugal, France or Italy.
First Rate predicted that many people will "be in for a pleasant surprise as to how far their holiday cash will go", with recent research from the Post Office indicating that prices in Spain have fallen by up to 30 per cent.
Gordon Gourlay, managing director of the company, said: "Lower tourist prices across the eurozone are extremely good news for the millions of UK holidaymakers who are set to make a return to traditional holiday destinations such as Spain and Portugal this year.
"UK foreign currency retailers can expect strong demand for the currency as savvy travellers stock up on euros in order to get best value from foreign exchange deals in the UK."
