New terminal expected to attract more visitors to Copenhagen
A new terminal designed to cater for low-cost airlines is expected to boost passenger numbers at Copenhagen Airport.
The CPH Swift building was at the centre of a topping-out ceremony on March 25th and is set to be fully operational in six months' time.
Copenhagen Airports revealed that the growth of low-cost carriers has led to better connections to Denmark and southern Sweden from several destinations across Europe.
The company has invested more than 200 million kroner (£24 million) in the CPH Swift terminal, equipping it with a number of facilities designed to meet the needs of budget airlines.
Brian Petersen, president and chief executive of Copenhagen Airports, said: "The airline industry is changing and passengers are changing their travel habits. The European low-cost market has expanded strongly in recent years and the trend is expected to continue."
He added: "In CPH Swift, we create a platform for more low-cost traffic, and it will attract visitors that would not otherwise come to Copenhagen. It will benefit tourism, business and employment in the Oresund region."
Several carriers currently offer flights to Copenhagen, including easyJet, Cimber Air and SAS.
