Rise in Easter bookings
More British holidaymakers booked Easter holidays this year, according to new figures.
Research by Co-operative Travel have revealed that there was an 18 per cent rise in holiday bookings on last year, suggesting that travellers are more confident in flying abroad than taking a staycation.
What's more, the number of flights to Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt has risen by over 63 per cent, making it the most popular Easter destination of the year.
It has taken the European sunny beach resort of Tenerife off the top of the list after years as a family favourite package holiday.
This Easter, holidays to Tenerife rose by 18 per cent.
Trevor Davis, director of retail distribution at the Co-operative Travel, explained that the appeal of Egypt is due to it offering more package holidays and developing its tourist attractions and infrastructure.
He said: "Tenerife has become more than just a holiday resort and is an iconic part of British culture - as emblematic as fish and chips, pubs and tabloid newspapers. The rise of Sharm El Sheikh shows how British tastes are changing."
