Travellers urged to explore all of Sri Lanka
Travellers planning a long-haul adventure to Sri Lanka have been encouraged to see all that the island has to offer.
Nabeel Shariff, UK and Ireland marketing manager for Sri Lanka Tourism, said that many of the leading travel hotspots have emerged along the country's coastline.
However, people who are willing to venture inland will find that the destination has much more to offer than beach resorts, according to Mr Shariff.
"Sri Lanka is home to a host of attractions in an area no larger than Ireland," he said.
"With ample coastline, the beaches have dominated the tourism landscape, however venturing inland opens up several different worlds morphing across the changing topographies."
There are many sites worth visiting across the island, including the rock fortress of Sigiriya, Minneriya National Park and the ancient capital cities of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa.
One of the easiest ways for international travellers to reach Sri Lanka is by taking flights to Colombo, which are available with SriLankan Airlines, Qatar Airways, Emirates and other carriers.
