EasyJet offering rescue flights for stranded passengers
EasyJet has scheduled special flights to Spain, Portugal, Malta and Egypt to bring home thousands of British passengers who have been stranded abroad following the closure of UK airspace over the past week.
The airline chartered additional aircraft to operate the 15 extra services from Gatwick Airport, Stansted Airport and Liverpool Airport, which commenced yesterday (April 21st) and will continue today.
Travellers are being transported home from several destinations in Europe and northern Africa, including Malaga, Alicante and Sharm el Sheikh.
EasyJet resumed 86 per cent of its regular scheduled flights yesterday, carrying around 140,000 passengers.
KLM, meanwhile, has announced that it is using its channels on Twitter and Facebook to reduce some of the strain on its call centres.
The sites are being used to inform customers of flight availability and answer questions about reservations.
Peter Hartman, president and chief executive of the airline, said: "We are pulling out all the stops to help our passengers. It's great news that we can use social media towards this end."
