Travellers value Kenya's diversity, expert reveals

One of the main reasons behind the enduring popularity of Kenya as a travel destination is its diversity, an expert has claimed.

Angie Sloan, regional director of the Kenya Tourist Board, said that the country's combination of open plains and coastline has allowed it to achieve a global profile.

"Kenya is world famous for its diverse range and sheer volume of wildlife, breathtaking landscapes and Indian Ocean coastline," she said.

"It offers safari and coast combinations which are very popular with the UK traveller, as many want to relax on the beach as well."

Ms Sloan pointed out that the country is home to 59 national parks and reserves, making it a "land of endless potential" for people who want to see Africa's 'big five' - the lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and rhinoceros.

The tourist board spokeswoman also pointed out the importance of accessibility from the UK, with the average flight to Nairobi taking less than eight hours, meaning that Kenya is considered a mid-haul destination.

A recent report from the Post Office revealed that the currencies of Kenya and Indonesia both saw substantial growth in demand in March compared to the previous year.
