Qantas introduces mobile check-in
Qantas has introduced a mobile check-in service at several of its hubs in Australia.
The offer, which will initially be available on the airline's domestic flights, is part of a wider 'next-generation check-in' project that was launched last year.
Advance seat selection has also been made available through the initiative, which will be piloted in Perth from July and extended to Sydney later in the year.
The new mobile service will allow users of iPhones, BlackBerrys and other web-enabled devices to check in for their flight between 24 hours and 45 minutes prior to departure.
A 2D barcode will be sent to the customer's phone to be scanned by a reader at the gate.
Alan Joyce, Qantas' chief executive officer, said: "Our research showed us our customers wanted more control over their travel experience. They want to be able to check-in before they even arrive at the airport and then move quickly through the airport to board their flight.
"Mobile check-in now offers customers the ability to check in remotely, while on the go, removing another airport process for our busy modern travellers."
The facility will be available to people connecting to the airline's domestic services at airports including Brisbane, Darwin and Melbourne.
