Jet2 begins flights to Funchal
Jet2 has brought the island of Madeira within closer reach of British travellers this week with the launch of flights to Funchal from Manchester Airport.
The carrier operated its inaugural service to the destination on May 3rd.
Portugal's national tourism agency pointed out that Madeira boasts year-round sunshine, as well as "beautiful natural beaches, rugged coastlines, volcanic caves and breathtaking views".
Activities including diving, fishing and surfing are popular among watersports enthusiasts, while the city of Funchal is home to bustling squares and streets that offer a number of shopping and dining options.
Miguel Perestrello, director of the Portuguese National Tourist Office, said: "Madeira is a fantastic holiday destination and we are delighted that the new flight route from Manchester will make the destination even more easily accessible for British customers based in the north-west."
Flights to Funchal are available from several other UK gateways, including Gatwick Airport, Bristol Airport and Edinburgh Airport.
