Air Berlin to commence flights to Mombasa
There will be a new travel option available to people planning a trip to Africa later this year, with Air Berlin set to launch flights to Mombasa in Kenya from Berlin Tegel Airport.
The carrier announced that it would introduce the route as part of its winter timetable.
New services to Dubai and Miami will also be launched, along with an additional weekly flight to Phuket in Thailand.
Air Berlin will base a new Airbus A330-200 at Tegel Airport to operate the extra routes.
Chief executive officer Joachim Hunold said: "The new long-haul destinations reflect Air Berlin's desire to make the most of this market opportunity and will strengthen the airline's position in Berlin for years to come.
"The service to Dubai is Air Berlin's first regular non-stop flight from Germany to the Middle East. By operating these flights, Air Berlin is offering an attractive product to business travellers as well as to holidaymakers."
Air Berlin's network of medium- and long-haul services also includes flights to Bangkok, Cairo and Tel Aviv.
