The Original Globe Theatre

The Shakespeare Festival begins in Neuss, Germany later this month

One of the most famous playwrights in the world, William Shakespeare’s origins were firmly on British soil, gaining fame and notoriety through his plays that were performed in London’s Globe Theatre. However, those looking further abroad for a sonnet or two may like to visit Neuss, the German city that is host to its very own Shakespeare Festival.

Opening the festival from the 17th June and running through the summer months until the 18th August individuals can take advantage of a range of flights to Dusseldorf offering quick and easy access to Neuss’s mock Globe Theatre. In a place where many would least expect to find Shakespeare plays unfolding in original language, theatre goers can expect a range of stories from the comedies of A Midsummer Nights Dream to the tragedy of The Tempest performed in the 500 seat theatrical building. In addition a range of other scintillating plays performed in their writers language offer an entire summer season of theatre spectacle for both locals and tourists alike.

Not situated far from Dusseldorf, Neuss can be easily accessed via a number of carriers and locations. Whilst both bmi and easyJet offer competitively priced and affordable economy class seats to the city, British Airways provides business class passengers with an upgraded luxury class in which to travel. Meanwhile, with operators flying out of cities around the country including London airports, Leeds-Bradford, and Cardiff, accessibility to Neuss and its Shakespearian charm is readily available for all looking for some British culture in foreign climes.
