South African Bound Flights Welcomed as World Cup Frenzy Begins
Table Mountain, Cape Town

Table Mountain is a popular tourist destination in Cape Town

After much talk and speculation the World Cup is only a matter of days away, with South Africa expecting a huge influx of tourists who have managed to get their hands upon the highly prized tickets. And whilst most may be bound straight to Cape Town's Stadium, the country has taken great strides to reveal a wider choice of culture and entertainment to football fans.

It is without much surprise that flights, both economy and business class, have seen booming trade over the past few months as World Cup ticket holders ensure a place at the 2010 championships. However, whilst the Table Mountain shadowed stadium will take centre stage on the events of the summer, South Africa's wider range of culture and entertainment may also be something that football fans want to explore. One such attraction is Cape Town's answer to Alcatraz, Table Bay's Robben Island. Now a cultural museum and UNESCO World Heritage Site the site of Nelson Mandela's incarceration is a poignant location not to be missed.

Meanwhile, and also host to a number of matches in its Soccer City Stadium, Johannesburg has been reformed from the turbulent riot-ridden city of the 1970's and is now a popular tourist destination with airlines such as  EgyptAir offering regular departures from both London Heathrow and Belfast International, flying via Cairo International.  A location of previous huge racial adversity, many monuments now feature as a remembrance for the troubles that were faced amongst the streets, allowing visitors to experience the rich and historic culture in recently modernised trendy commercial settings. And whilst visitors may largely be visiting South Africa for the football the country which has seen so much violence in the past will be looking to shed its image and replace it with modern and culturally rich prosperity.
