New London Flights Allow More Travellers to Experience Sweden
Gothenburg is a popular destination for tourists wanting good seafood cuisine
It has been revealed that easyJet are to commence flights later this year to Gothenburg, allowing an increased number of tourists to take the opportunity to explore Sweden. Flying from London Gatwick the route will commence from the 6th September, introducing the second largest city in Sweden to a host of new visitors.
Sweden itself has become of increasing popularity as a vacation destination in recent years, notably because of Stieg Larsson's 'Millennium Trilogy'. Set in the mysterious climes of Scandinavia the author's trilogy has become a worldwide hit, spawning publications in a number of languages around the world and bringing an often forgotten destination to the forefront of the media spotlight. With Swedish films of the stories and the first part, 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' in pre-production for a Hollywood dramatisation, increased traffic is likely to continue for years to come.
Speaking of the new flights to be opened by easyJet Visit Sweden UK's public relations manager, Philippa Sutton, revealed that Gothenburg had a long tradition in seafood cuisine, a feature which could put it on the map. "Gothenburg is a port city so it has real maritime history. Up the coast a bit within the hour you can do a lobster safari, which is slightly out of the region but perfectly doable with a city break," she explained. Ms Sutton added that additional local markets and fisheries provided the perfect lure for those wishing to find traditional Swedish delicacies.
The move by easyJet marks its first route to Sweden. And with flight's now on sale to the increasingly popular destination, those looking for a cultural and unusual holiday may look to Gothenburg for their next exploration.
