Beirut Offers Historical Blend for Modern Travellers
Beirut is an ideal location for those looking for a good mix of history and culture.
With many nations in the Middle East looking to capitalise on the growing number of travellers wishing for more far flung and exotic destinations to visit Beirut has recently made significant moves to welcome the western traveller. With London Heathrow offering a range of flights to Lebanon's capital city and previous political unrest easing, those looking for a historically and culturally filled destination need not look any further.
Colonised and conquered throughout history by a number of different races including the Persians, Christian Crusaders and Israeli's the city offers the rare chance to see historic artefacts spanning three millennia. Baalbek's Roman ruins lay to the east whilst Raymond de Saint-Gilles Citadel lies to the north of the city providing an immense array of day excursions. Meanwhile a packed National Museum provides the perfect place for tourists to sample a small delight of the countries complete history without having the leave the city itself.
Meanwhile, though having been the centre for some modern-day political conflict the meeting of Middle East and the Western world works well here with a vibrant nightlife allowing for alcohol consumption and dress wear that would not be allowed in many other Muslim countries to be easily enjoyed. Elsewhere, with a burgeoning hotel sector, coffee shops and the Beirut Souks shopping mall comfort needn't stop after disembarking flights, for with a full furnishing of modern day luxuries for visitors to enjoy Beirut's eastern culture can be experienced with comfort and ease.
