It has been revealed that the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro remains a popular destination with British tourists looking to explore South America. With the number of people travelling to the spot seeing a continual increase, TAM airlines have now announced additional services, making the city of Rio more accessible for individuals across Britain.
Rio, as it is commonly referred to, is the capital city of the State of Rio de Janeiro and the second largest city in Brazil, with Sao Paulo being the largest.
Offering an exotic retreat into culturally rich South America, the city provides year round attractions including beautiful beaches and world famous carnivals in addition to the music, markets and the bustle associated with such a city. Meanwhile, with the FIFA 2014 World Cup and 2016 Summer Olympics due to be hosted by the region, Rio's place as a sporting centre is likely to only rocket over the coming years.
Due to the increase being seen, TAM Airlines has revealed that they are to begin a direct service from London to Rio beginning on 10th August. Adding to their current London to Sao Paulo services, the Rio de Janeiro route will be departing three times a week utilising the carrier's Airbus A330-200s. Increasing overall access to Brazil by 25per cent, flights will leave London Heathrow at 21.15 on Fridays, Saturdays and Tuesdays. Explaining the addition to their operations, TAM's vice president of its Commercial and Planning division, Paulo Castello Branco, said "We have seen a steady and solid increase in passenger demand between London and Rio de Janeiro on the existing Sao Paulo service."
