Flights with American Airlines to Offer Mobile Boarding Passes
American Airlines are introducing boarding passes for smartphones with immediate effect
It has been announced that with immediate effect passengers flying with American Airlines and departing from London Heathrow will be able to receive their boarding passes on their smartphones or mobiles. Already in use on American domestic flights the emergence of the trend marks an important step forward in boarding ease and becoming environmentally aware.
The new scheme for American Airlines, who fly to over 250 cities around the globe, will provide customers with an entirely new way of accessing flights without the concern of having to carry additional paperwork and boarding passes with them. First introduced in conjunction with the U.S Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the expansion of such a scheme to London marks an important step for American Airlines. Speaking of the importance the firm's vice president of customer technology, Andrew Watson, revealed "Eligible passengers departing from London Heathrow or one of the 41 U.S. cities that currently offer the program now have the option to avoid printing a paper boarding pass and choose instead to have their boarding pass displayed on their mobile device."
Functioning simply and easily passengers choose to receive the mobile pass when checking in online. Boarding passes are then sent to a link accessed through an email account, allowing those with internet connecting phones to pull up a 2D barcode for scanning at airport security points. In addition bags can also be checked in with this process, simply accessing the appropriate points and scanning the barcode at airports. And with many business travellers and others constantly on the go, one less piece of paper to worry about is likely to be of great advantage to those in a hurry.
