Glasgow Airport Set to Expand with New Flights

BAA is negotiating with several airlines to provide new routes to Norway, Croatia and Holland

It has been revealed that the Scottish Government has big plans for Glasgow Airport with the future addition of new international routes. Revealing that they expect to add £16m to the economy with the new flights, the addition of such services will benefit thousands who will be able to jet to new locations around the globe.

Part of a conscious effort to increase the number of services available to passengers, Glasgow city is currently in close talks with airlines to provide services to multiple locations including Canada, Turkey, Spain and Egypt. Meanwhile, BAA is also negotiating with several companies to provide new routes to Amsterdam, Stavanger in Norway and Split in Croatia.

The news of such additions to Glasgow airports portfolio came as Labour politician, Liz Cameron, talked about the Route Development Fund and how it had been spent. Setting aside £100,000 earlier this year to fund the development of additional routes, Ms Cameron revealed that Glasgow Airport's chief executive, Amanda McMillan, had already criticised the Scottish Government for its lack of support in the expansion of new international routes.

Of the Route Development Fund, £55,000 has already been used to reinstate flights to Reykjavik with Icelandair, whilst Canadian Air services have been expanded and Irish routes increased. And with the promise of a range of new services commencing, the outlook for both business and economy travellers in Scotland looks to be highly positive.
