BA Flights to New York Offer Sports Fans Welcome Updates
London City Airport

Passengers flying between London City Airport and New York JFK will be able to recieve updates from sporting events via their smartphones

British Airways has revealed that customers travelling from London City Airport to New York will now have access to the latest sporting updates. Offering an in-flight entertainment portal for flyers, information such as news from the World Cup will be provided via smartphone updates, allowing sports fans to keep a constant track of the latest score.

Already provided for those who had not wanted to miss the end of Wimbledon, BA explained that the service is going to be continually available for the FIFA World Cup scores. Working with SITA and OnAir, an in-flight update provider, the airline had brought the Club Mobile portal into effect, allowing those with a smartphone to connect to the device and provide a gateway to information and news. Initially providing users with an information service link, the portal can provide additional data to sports news including traffic updates, weather forecasts and details on local events and entertainment.

Speaking of the welcome addition to the New York route, head of customer experience, Mark Hassell, explained that the initiation of such a device paves the way for a new era of service. "The launch of Club Mobile is the beginning of a new era in what customers on the London City service can expect from staying connected as they fly," he said, adding "From timely travel information to a range of services highly tailored to their journey and destination, British Airways' Club Mobile connects our customers more than ever before."

Operating two daily flights for business travellers between London City Airport and New York, the scheme will initially only benefit the 32 flyers on each respective flight. However, if such access proves popular, the smartphone port is likely to be extended to aircraft across the entire fleet.
