Hanoi Provides Intriguing Blend of Culture
Vietnam is fast becoming one of Southeast Asia's tourist hot spots
Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, is a well-established location which adorns the map of many backpackers. Encompassing an intriguing blend of cultures from both The East and West, it has avoided much of the degrading architectural exploits of the late 20th century. With renewed interest in the nation, Vietnam is fast becoming one of Southeast Asia's hottest locations.
With huge economic investment into the tourism sector over the past decade, Hanoi's visitor accommodation in particular has benefited greatly. Whilst the backpacking retreats are still easily found, a range of middle class and luxury hotels have been developed allowing for tourists to enjoy the country without having to compromise their surroundings. Flying into Hanoi, visitors can start their vacation with a huge range of options, from uncovering luxurious fabrics in the Cho Hom market, to heading to the Old Quarter where bartering and boutiques are commonplace. Meanwhile, the iconic Minh's Jazz Club plays host to some of the world's very best musicians in the genre, whilst Club 51 offers cocktails and cabaret.
Elsewhere, travellers can find a rich cultural experience by visiting the embalmed body of Ho Chi Minh or taking in age-old farming stories at the Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre. French colonial buildings set in beautifully tree-lined streets add to the city's idyllic setting, making the reasons for the Vietnamese capital's appeal with tourists obviously apparent. With a wide array of carriers including Vietnam Airways, Aeroflot and Qantas offering cheap options for both economy and premium economy, the Southeast's rising star can certainly offer visitors a once in a lifetime trip.
