Sri Lanka has its eyes set on increasing tourism

It has been revealed by the tourism development authority in Sri Lanka that a new range of hotel complexes will provide thousands of additional rooms for visiting tourists. Just days after it was revealed that British individuals are looking for further flung and more exotic locations to explore, the director of tourism in Sri Lanka, General S. Kalaiselvam, said that the process of upgrading the hotels has already begun.

With flights from the UK offering a number of services into Colombo, access to the country is relatively cheap and easy. However, with large and publicly reported political clashes affecting the country in the past, many travellers looking for a luxurious and restful break tend to avoid the country. This hasn't deterred the nation's government though, with new proposals revealing that by 2016 approximately 600,000 individuals will be employed in the hotelier industry, with three new resorts also to be built, adding 10,000 new rooms to the country's current 14,000.

Proposing to increase their influx of visitors to nearly 60,000 per month, focus by the tourism authority in the country has certainly been set on increasing interest in visiting the country. Showing strong demand from UK visitors, in particular those flying London Heathrow and Birmingham, the Sri Lankan government are also looking for ways to attract individuals from Japan, China and the Middle East. And with foreign embassies recently lifting a number of warnings about travelling to the country, Sri Lanka's resort proposals look set to increase British interest.
