Iceland Continues to Inspire
The Icelandic landscape is often thought to be barren but many areas are carpeted with lush grass and wildflowers
Despite recent disruptions to air travel caused by the volcanic emissions of Eyjafjallajokull, Iceland still continues to be heralded as an ideal holiday destination among tourists. Iceland boasts a truly unique landscape, setting the scene with environments that many tourists are unlikely to have experienced before. In Iceland, the summer sun sets shortly before midnight and allows tourists to enjoy extended daytimes in which to soak up the country's vibrant culture and nuances.
The capital of Iceland, Reykjavik, is accessible from London Heathrow via Icelandair. It takes a mere three hours for Icelandair to transport passengers from the day-to-day grind of British life to this enchanting destination. Often incorrectly assumed by tourists to be nothing more than an expanse of lava rock and barren landscape, Iceland is in fact host to a wide range of inspiring scenery. Lower mountainous areas are carpeted with lush grass and wildflowers, and glacial lagoons provide the perfect opportunity to explore the arctic landscape. Presently the infamous volcano, which has been the subject of many media reports of late, majestically fills the sky as veins of colourful mineral deposits ripple through the mountains beneath it.
Reykjavik itself continues to maintain a vibrant nightlife allowing travellers to spend as much of their evenings in the many bars and clubs as they do in the geothermal spas throughout the daytime. Isolated fishing villages offer the perfect break from city life, while the Northern Lights, one of the most coveted experiences in the world, can often be observed in the night sky. As Iceland's tourist board attempts to dispel the many misconceptions of this tranquil nation, competitive prices and long summer days make Iceland the perfect location for an out of the ordinary getaway experience.
