Aberdeen's New Flights Look to Increase Business
Aberdeen Airport has announced the introduction of new routes
Having been severely affected by industrial action and volcanic ash, 2010 has certainly been a tough year for Aberdeen Airport. However, things are looking up for its passengers, as the airport recently announced a new deal with Barrhead Travel that will see additional routes being added to its existing destinations.
The announcement was made after months of talks between the airport and travel firm Barrhead Travel finally concluded with a positive outcome. Attempting to recover from a recent spate of misfortune, including the loss of budget airline Flyglobespan, Aberdeen Airport now has its sights set on attracting additional passengers in the north-east of the United Kingdom who are looking for an easy holiday option
Starting in May 2011, the weekly flights to Malaga will provide travellers in Scotland easy access to the location, while services to Palma will help to attract even more keen tourists. Speaking about the news, route development manager at Aberdeen Airport's parent firm BAA, Jan Emery, said "I am delighted that we are now in a position to confirm the return of Malaga and another option for getting from Aberdeen to Palma." Meanwhile it was also confirmed that should bookings for next year's additional flights prove successful, the alliance would "seriously consider" increasing both capacity and services to and from the airport.
Meanwhile, with Glasgow Airport's recent advancement in offering a host of new international routes and services, holidaymakers in Scotland are likely to see an increase in the number of travel options available to them.
