Air Berlin's association with American Airlines will allow passengers to earn frequent flyer points

It has been revealed that Air Berlin has negotiated a cooperative agreement with American Airlines, allowing Germany's second largest airline to provide a smoother and more extensive service to customers. With a large network in Europe already established, the move will allow passengers to build frequent flyer points and receive an improved service whilst travelling with either company.

Already servicing over 160 cities throughout Russia, the Middle East and Europe, Air Berlin will now allow customers easy access to American Airline's vast network across the United States. Operating from a range of British airports including Aberdeen, Stansted and Manchester, Air Berlin will now be able to integrate with its partner's routes to almost 250 cities. Meanwhile, customers will also benefit from the alliance by earning frequent flyer points when travelling via codeshare flights.

Speaking of the news American Airline's CEO, Gerard Arpey, expressed "This relationship will add significant value for our customers by substantially growing our worldwide network. It gives our customers wide access to Germany, Europe's biggest economy, as well as many other business and leisure destinations. And their U.S. service complements three of our strategic cornerstone markets - New York, Miami, and Los Angeles." Elsewhere Air Berlin's CEO, Joachim Hunold, said that the relationship would officially begin as the 2010/2011 winter season starts, opening a huge range of new travel options to both economy and business passengers. With American Airlines being one of the founders of the oneworld Alliance, Air Berlin also looks set to benefit from the proven quality and recognition that the alliance has already established.
