Mexico City Flights Return to Gatwick
Mexicana Airlines has reinstated its service between Gatwick and Mexico City
It has been revealed by the Mexican operator Mexicana Airlines that their services to Mexico City are to resume from London Gatwick. With the airline facing financial trouble, many of its routes have been suspended. However, the operator announced that those wishing to fly to Mexico from a London airport could still do so.
Carrying a large amount of debt, 18 of Mexicana's routes were suspended this week, concerning both passengers and professionals in the industry. Whilst the London to Mexico City route was one of the services stopped flights have now resumed, allaying holidaymakers fears that their travel plans were to be cancelled.
Announcing that they were seeking financial support to ensure the continuation of the airline, Mexicana said "Although flights will be reduced to a minimum over coming days, the airline and its employees are determined to make an effort to continue operating out of concern for passengers." The news comes after last year's swine flu outbreak caused Mexico's tourism to plummet, leaving many sectors struggling to turn a profit.
However, resumption of the flights to Mexico City remains positive news for passengers wanting to visit the popular destination on holiday. As the fear of swine flu diminishes and the country continues to remain a popular holiday destination Mexico looks set to continue to attract tourists from across the globe.
