Osaka Castle

Osaka is home to one of Japan's most famous castles

Despite the fact that its currency has a higher exchange rate than that of other countries, Japan has proven to be not only vital to the world's economy, but also an intriguing holiday destination for many in the west. With news that a selection of new hotels will open in the country over the coming months, Japan looks set to enjoy even more tourism.

While the recession has seen many countries experiencing a lull in visitor numbers, Japan's National Tourism Organisation has revealed that the first six months of 2010 noted a 35.8per cent increase in tourism.

Japan, a country that continues to intrigue and mystify many in the British Isles, provides the escapism and true cultural shock that many more adventurous travellers look for in a holiday. High tech and cutting edge gadgets merge eclectically with traditional zen gardens, geisha girls and glorious landscapes. Japan's cities offer the forefront of design and ground breaking electronics, while its landscapes are the some of the most calming and beautiful in the world.

Osaka, the second largest city in Japan, will be the location of St. Regis' latest accommodation. The 160-room hotel will open its doors on the 1st October and will promises to boast the most luxurious guest suites in all of Osaka.

Meanwhile, Capitol Hotel Tokyo and The Tokyo Hotels Co. are both due to open their own high-tech accommodation in Japan's capital city of Tokyo, providing luxurious and chic services to travellers visiting the bustling city. And with a range of airlines such as Aeroflot, Emirates and Etihad offering flights from London, Japan's unique culture is likely to continue enthralling the hearts of British travellers.
