Aer Lingus claimed the Best Airline crown at a recent awards ceremony in London.

Between the blizzards of January, May's volcanic ash cloud shut-down, various strikes, and the global recession in general, the travel industry has really been put on its toes. And while some may have failed to miss the mark, there are many who have gone above and beyond to ensure their customers had a positive travel experience. The Holiday Extras Customers' Awards 2010 acknowledges those travel providers, with over 24,000 travellers putting in their votes in key categories like best airline, best cabin crew, and best airport.

The ceremony took place in London and was hosted by well-known travel journalist Simon Calder, with representatives from a variety of airlines, as well as press and travel bloggers being present amongst the crowd.

In the category of Best Airline, Aer Lingus claimed the crown, while Virgin took home the award for Best Cabin Crew. As for Best Airport, customers chose Northern Ireland's own Belfast International for that award. For excellence in providing services for travellers with disabilities Air Canada, Swiss, and KLM came in first, second, and third respectively.

All of those who participated in the nominations and voting were entered into a draw for a chance to win airport-related prizes, including free airport parking, a free room at an airport hotel, and/or access to an airport lounge prior to departure.

From award-winning Belfast International Airport, travellers can set off to destinations worldwide - including New York, Amsterdam, and Paris. All of the airlines mentioned above operate regularly from the UK, flying to various locations around the world.
