EasyJet Launching Three New Routes from Edinburgh

The new route from Edinburgh to Paphos, the birthplace of the mythological goddess Aphrodite, will commence in November

Budget airline EasyJet is launching three new routes from Edinburgh Airport in the coming months; this includes:

A new route to the city of Paphos in Cyprus launching 3 November 2010

A new route to the city of Cologne, Germany beginning 23 November 2010

A new route to the city of Basel, Switzerland beginning the early part of December

This places EasyJet's total flights out of Edinburgh at 20, all which travel to various destinations across Europe.  The route to Paphos will operate twice a week, while the Cologne route will depart four times a week.

With the addition of the new flights, Paphos now becomes EasyJet's farthest destination travelled to the east, out-distancing both Krakow and Munich, two of EasyJet's current destinations. For holiday makers, Paphos offers a rich heritage ensconced in a sub-tropical climate. Mythology has it that Paphos is where the goddess Aphrodite was born.

Of the three additional destinations, Cologne is perhaps the most well-known to travellers.  A major trading centre since the middle ages, Cologne is one of Germany's largest cities, known for its numerous museums and its annual street carnival which begins in November and can last through the following March.

According to Edinburgh Airport officials, EasyJet is considered to be a key partner and a vital part of the airport's drive to strengthen its links to "sun destinations and European cities". The airport hopes that with the addition of these new routes, more tourists will venture to Scotland.
