Whether skiing, snowboarding, or simply hiking through snow-covered landscapes, winter sports holidays remain extremely popular among UK travellers. With a range of fantastic European destinations located right on Britain's doorstep, access to some of the best stops is readily available to any Brit seeking a winter getaway.

One of the most famous skiing locations is France's Espace Killy, which is easily accessible from a number of airports, including Chambery and Lyon. A selection of different terrains makes this destination ideal for both beginners and expert skiers alike.

Elsewhere in France is Chamonix, which located in the highest peak of the Alps and often described as one of the world's top skiing resorts. Famous for hosting the 1924 Winter Olympic Games, it is accessible from Geneva, and has a huge range of activities on offer, day and night.

For those considering a resort in a location other than France, Switzerland's Zermatt provides the skiing enthusiast with stunning scenery and excellent winter sports facilities which truly allow for a relaxing getaway. Flying to Zurich from the UK is very easy - visitors can expect to arrive on the slopes in no time.

Austria is host to some glorious winter sports locations, including St Anton, home to challenging pistes and all night clubs, and Kitzbuhel, a more traditional village setting. Both are fairly accessible from Innsbruck, while the latter can also be reached via Salzburg, which is located only 46 miles away.
