Flights to Turkey in Demand as Brits Flood to Sunny Shores
Bodrum

Locations including Bodrum and Istanbul are becoming increasingly popular with British tourists

Newly released figures from marketing research firm GfK show that Turkey is a rising hotspot for Brits looking for cheap holiday destinations. With interest in budget holiday deals on the rise while families struggle to find quality holidays at prices they can afford, the popularity of places such as Bodrum and Istanbul is steadily increasing for British residents.

Undertaking the survey ahead of London's World Travel Market in November, GfK revealed that Turkey is benefiting from the number of Brits exploring new places. Istanbul has been declared the 2010 European Capital of Culture, with tourismturkey.org noting that it has become "one of Europe's most popular cruise ports", while this summer The Guardian celebrated Turkey's "hidden bays" and "pristine secluded coves" in a feature on Turkey's top ten beaches. With the Mediterranean continuing to attract large number of holidaymakers it is not surprising that the Eastern area has been growing in popularity. With many holidaymakers looking for a new haven after visiting other European ports such as Alicante or Tenerife, travelling to the east is an easy and accessible adventure.

Meanwhile, while Turkey has seen an increase in British visitors, figures also show that Greece is making a comeback after the economic crisis. The number of visitors has shown a steady recovery since tourism dipped by 8% during the recession. With so much to explore, and cheap flights available to both countries from a range of British airports including Luton, Gatwick, and Manchester, holiday deals to the East Mediterranean are likely to only soar.
