Bournemouth Airport Hopes to Be Flying High with New Services
Bournemouth Airport currently sees 800,000 passengers travel annually
Bournemouth Airport's Chief Executive has revealed that he is committed to expansion and improved services on both domestic and international flights. Hit hard by the economic crisis, Bournemouth lost several operators and saw a heavy decline of profit. However, the has continued with plans for a £45m departures lounge, proving that they remained committed to providing services in the long term. Rob Goldsmith admitted that there were "massive challenges" ahead, but said that he believed that Bournemouth could be "innovative in how we develop new income streams".
Currently, Bournemouth airport mainly offers flights to destinations in the Mediterranean, such as Ibiza and Rhodes, but the airport is now looking to increase domestic routes. Flights to Glasgow, Manchester, and Leeds are all being looked at, but Mr Goldsmith suggested increasing connections with "hub" airports such as Amsterdam. Making connection flights for passengers far easier, this could be of huge benefit to those living in the South West of England. Though the port currently sees just 800,000 passengers travel annually, facilities can cope with up to three million.
With more domestic flights, services to European destinations, and increased long haul flights taking advantage of airplanes such as the Dreamliner, Bournemouth airport's future could be looking brighter.
