New Flights from Gatwick Announced
The new flights to San Juan will commence March 2011
British Airways have revealed that they will be launching a new service between Gatwick and Puerto Rico. With flights available from March 28th 2011, the twice-weekly route will fly to San Juan, offering British visitors a simple and easy way to travel to the exotic island in the North Caribbean Sea.
Chief executive of BA, Willie Walsh, spoke of the importance of developing new flights to the Caribbean, commenting that "We (BA) are committed to developing our presence in the Caribbean wherever possible, building on our relationship with the region which stretches back many decades." The new additions to BA's roster will see the number of services to and from the region rise to 64 per week, with flights ravelling to 15 destinations across the Caribbean, an encouraging figure for those looking to fly to the area.
The largest island in the Greater Antilles, Puerto Rico is an exotic location boasting 212 miles of gorgeous and pristine beaches. Particularly attractive to sportspeople, the island's facilities include 12 Championship standard golf courses and100 tennis courts, as well as a range of water sporting activities. Meanwhile, the island is also a major port for many cruise voyages, and as such has a multitude of duty-free retail outlets for tourists to enjoy.
The announcement from BA marks the latest development in a plan to extend services to the Caribbean throughout 2011. In addition to Puerto Rico, Barbados, Antigua, and St Lucia will all be receiving new flight services in the coming months.
