Britons Return to Overseas Holidays

A recent Travel Trends Survey has revealed that many people intend to holiday abroad in 2011

With the recession having caused a significant change in holiday trends, many Britons have opted for 'staycations' throughout the recent tough economic times. However, a new survey has revealed that the trend is once again changing, with large proportions of individuals set to holiday abroad in 2011.

To save their money and survive a troubling economic period many Brits shied away from taking overseas breaks, opting to stay at home instead or take short breaks away within the British Islands. However, a recent Travel Trends Survey has revealed that 66per cent of UK travellers are likely to indulge in long haul breaks next year, signalling that 'staycations' are set to fall in popularity.

With European destinations finding favour, popular cities such as Barcelona and Lisbon, along with Greek islands including Crete will remain popular. However, with a fluctuating euro often tracking unfairly against the British pound, many Britons will also be inclined to head for destinations slightly further afield. These are likely to include Egypt's Luxor, Cairo, and Sharm El Sheik, or Turkey's Dalaman and Antayla.

The news comes as a welcome relief for airlines, many of whom have struggled through the economic low as passenger travel dropped off. However, with individuals once again opting to travel on medium and long haul flights for holidays, demand for fares are set to increase for a wide number of destinations. And with so many airlines offering competitive prices, Brits will not only be able to find exotic holiday retreats but comfortable and affordable airline deals.
