Singapore Airlines Makes Changes to A380
Singapore Airlines will take delivery of its 13th A380 next year
It has been revealed that Singapore Airlines will make changes to the layout of cabin classes on its A380s. Whilst economy passengers can currently take advantage of cheap fares in the aircraft's upper decks, the airline revealed that from May 2011 its business sections will be extended, ending the upper level economy fares.
Singapore Airlines will take delivery of its 13th jumbo jet next year and, as a move to provide a better and increased service to business passengers, has decided to dispense with economy seating on the upper deck of its newly ordered planes. The upper deck not only offers a quieter journey; it has also been noted by many economy passengers that they enjoyed the increased comfort of that section. However, the luxurious setting is now to be kept for business clients only, with the airline extending business seating throughout the upper deck.
Reconfiguration of the planes is expected to occur on Singapore's main business routes, including those to London Heathrow, Zurich and Paris. Meanwhile, any A380s that are to remain unmodified will be used on considerably less busy routes, such as those to Sydney and Melbourne.
While the news signals a positive step for business travellers, who will have more seats and greater space available to them, the change is also expected to result in an increase of economy passengers, as more travellers opt to take advantage of the existing upper deck services over the next few months while the option is in place.
