Sri Lanka Tipped for 2011 Tourism Success
Sri Lanka could prove popular tourist destination in 2011
With the recession seeming to having little impact on the importance of holidays, British travellers remain as eager as ever to discover the world and take in new and exciting destinations. As experts look to the hotspots of 2011, many are suggesting that the pristine beaches of Sri Lanka could prove very popular.
Whilst many have heard of Colombo, Sri Lanka remains a relatively new tourist destination to many British tourists. Unawatuna, located on the island's south coast, is an exotic retreat for those willing to take the time to travel to there. Whilst most may have never heard of the area, Unawatuna offers pristine beaches perfect for wandering amongst palm fringed sands, soaking up the sun, and playing in the surf. Noted for its strong currents many beach locations around Sri Lanka can be rather dangerous. However, Unawatuna differs from the norm, allowing strong swimmers to enjoy the waters in relative safety. With a wide range of smaller places to stay, including the beachside Secret Garden guesthouse, there are guaranteed to be peaceful facilities for visitors. With fresh seafood cafes, the unique experience of beachside retailers offering suntan oil in the form of aloe vera fronds, and catamarans for an unbelievable boating experience, Unawatuna could prove to be the ultimate discovery of 2011.
A number of carriers including Qatar Airways, Kuwait Airways, and Etihad offer modestly priced fares to Colombo. And for those who want to venture further afield and find some hidden gems, Sri Lanka's south coast could be perfect.
