Air Jamaica set to re introduce direct flights from Heathrow to Montego Bay

It has been revealed that for the first time since 2007, Air Jamaica is to re-introduce direct flights from Heathrow to Montego Bay. The Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) have announced that a merger between Caribbean Airlines and Air Jamaica has now been formalised.

Whilst charter flights to Montego Bay already exist from Britain, including both Manchester and London Gatwick, scheduled direct flights remain limited. Jamaica is a popular travel destination, with many visitors wanting to explore its unique culture. With the revival of direct services to the nation, more people than ever before will be able to take the opportunity to explore the country.

Talking of the new services and the part they would play in boosting the economy, Jamaican tourism minister, Edmund Bartlett, said that with the delivery of seven new planes, Air Jamaica were in a place to offer a number of new routes. British travellers will able to take advantage of a 777 from London Heathrow, making the island nation far more accessible than ever before.

"Through Air Jamaica we're expecting to initially increase our reach, and then we'd look to develop new partnerships with airlines to make further routes in those areas," he explained.

The news comes at a time when British tourists are searching for new destinations to visit during their 2011 holidays.  With visitors wanting to travel to new destinations irrespective of flight time, direct flights to Jamaica are likely to be very popular.
